Okay fellow IR readers, it took me a LONG time tto decide to start buying group because i could never get a real sense of what it was about from the summary or reviews. So I will attempt to give you a general summary without a spoiler. This 12 volume series is packed with love, hate, intrigue, violence, laughter and, of course, sex! It is the soap opera of IR! Sylvia (the African American heroine) is woman who raised 2 kids that she had with a dangerous and abusive husband in Chicago and has now relocated to a small town in Wisconsin where she hopes to fulfill her dream of becoming a writer and a truly independent woman! Enter Shawn - our hero, who is white and her neighbor across the street. A handsome alpha male on a motorcycle who is loud, multi-talented, riddled with unresolved issues related to his father's harsh rearing practices and his experiences after he angrily left home for L.A. where he learned about "the streets", married a wealthy heiress with crazy and depraved parents, had a daughter by her, divorced her, and is now hell bent on making making Sylvia his wife! This is BOWMAW! I got hooked because I wanted to know what happened next! It really does unfold like a made for TV series like Dallas or the Sopranos.I gave it 4 stars because I believe that there were too many minor editing errors in this expensive ($9.99/ea) series and often a gratuitous usage of "street talk" and dialect by characters where it is totally unnecessary. I believe that sometimes the descripsons of the characters' personal thoughts go on too long as well. This did NOT stop me from enjoying this work.
I must also add, that the author is creative, is able to write great dialogue between characters that is both serious and humorous, and she has kept me interested for 12 ebooks looking forward to #13! Hurry up M.K!

Bomaw Volume One The Beauty Of Man and Woman Mercedes Keyes Lawrence James 9781450551625 Books Reviews
I've read all of her novels (more than once...more than twice lol). She is really good at developing characters and making them so real and their situations so believable. Honestly she is my all time favorite IR author because she writes about love and relationships not just sex (although she can truly write some really hot sex scenes). Too many IR romance novels are lacking romance and the "getting to know you" phase that builds you to that ultimate moment.
While the prices of her books are a little high I believe the price is justifiable. Anytime you can read a book numerous times and never get tired of it..well you got your monies worth) I'm going to reread BOWAM I so I can start purchasing the series just because, quite frankly, I'm tired of all the crappy IR novels that are out now. Mercedes Keyes in my opinion is a sure win. You simply can't go wrong purchasing any of her books. BTW I love Shawn and Sylvia's relationship)
Ms. Keyes continues to hook me in with her writing! My intention was to start BOMAW in the fall and have it take me through winter but here it is July and I'm done with book 1! I just couldn't wait after reading Webster Fields. I love the characters Shawn and Sylvia. It took a bit of time to get accustomed to Sylvia's way of speaking to Shawn (her broken English/sassy dialect) but eventually I caught on. Still not fond of it but the character is a force to be reckoned with. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how things pan out with Deidre and her parents and whether or not Jake's flirtation goes further. If so, will Sylvia tell Shawn?! Great set up for what is sure to be a juicy soap opera. Excellent work!
After reading the Webster Fields series by this author, I figured I would try out the BOMAW series as well. It started out well enough, though to be fair I was not really a fan of Sylvia's...she was just a little to abrasive for me. On the other hand Shawn was too aggressive and interested for her to be brushing him off so much, just my opinion. Then it seemed as if the book got even stranger, throwing some elements that were so fantastical and crazy it was hard to keep track. While some of this was entertaining, it was really all over the place and hard to really enjoy. I am sure that all of this happens in the first volume to set the base for the rest of the volumes, so I may check out volume 2 just to see where this is going. All in all, it wasn't a bad effort, it was just alot to take in. To be fair though, I have noticed this with other books that began as online serials that were turned into books later on.
Beauty of a man and woman is the story of Sylvia Payne and Shawn McPherson. After leaving California, Shawn moves back to his home state of Wisconsin. He has neighbor on his street but has only heard about her. Sylvia is from Chicago and decides to move closer to her collage age children in a smaller not less than 30 minutes away after the accident that kills her husband. She wants to be a writer is a loving her new Independence. She happens to interact with Shawn in a very unexpected way by calling the cops after a very loud welcome home party. They eventually meet in town and so starts a very strange and funny love story. I have really jumped on to the multicultural romance novels before this book. I really didn't get into this book until about mid way through. The characters were that shallow but the situations as far living situations seem very much real. The book needed some editing. I guess the only thing that bothered me a little was the " black talk" in the books. I am from Chicago and I know the way black folks speak. I guess it is hard to read it on a page. Overall the book read like a soap opera.
